The Sounds Of Tanglewood

An Evening of Music in the Berkshires

Nestled in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains, in the quaint town of Lenox, Massachusetts lies Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra for more than 60 years. The serene setting for a concert by the Boston Pops is perfect for a summer night under the stars with beautiful music filling the air.

Tonight's program, called Tanglewood on Parade is a sampling of the variety Tanglewood offers. It's one of the highlights of the summer, featuring performances by the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, and Tanglewood Music Center orchestras. The evening program boasts a feast of music and festivities including the traditional performance of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. The evening ends with a magnificent fireworks display overhead. We'll enjoy the concert from our covered seats inside the Tanglewood Shed. There's no better place to listen to live music as the sun sets and the stars unveil themselves. We'll stay for 2 nights at the Pittsfield Crowne Plaza Hotel nearby.

Besides Tanglewood, you'll also enjoy some of the Berkshire's most popular attractions. In Williamstown, we'll visit one of the Berkshire's premier art museums, the Clark Art Institute. Nestled in the Berkshire hills The Clark is well known for its extraordinary collection of Impressionists and Renaissance paintings as well as the works of popular American Artists such as Frederic Remington and Winslow Homer.

In Lenox, we'll have a guided tour of The Mount, Edith Wharton's elegant country home. This National Historic Landmark estate was designed by renowned American Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Edith Wharton in 1902. The 49-acre property features one of the most significant formal gardens in New England. We'll also visit one of the area's Gilded Age mansions, Ventfort Hall, an imposing Elizabethan-style mansion built in 1893 for Sarah Morgan, the sister of J. P. Morgan. This home is known by many as the building used as the orphanage in the movie, "Cider House Rules".
